Volunteer Journey
To become a certified Mother to Mother volunteer, you’ll move through these steps:
Intake Interview with Your Chapter Coordinator
A get-acquainted meeting to discuss mutual expectations and ensure the program is the right fit for you.
Acceptance & Initial Training
A series of workshop‑style sessions, each focusing on a different aspect of the volunteer role.
Ongoing Monthly Trainings
One group session per month to deepen your skills and refresh your knowledge.
Maternal Support Commitment
Once paired by your coordinator, you’ll begin weekly visits with your assigned mother. Your consistency and dedication form the foundation of this vital connection.
Guiding Principles
Open-Hearted Presence: We show up with empathy, deep listening, and respect—without judgment or unsolicited advice.
Safe, Trusting Space: Our role is not to diagnose, treat, or mentor in a professional capacity. Rather, we provide a nurturing environment where new mothers can think aloud, process their experiences, and feel understood.
Facilitating Mentalization: By holding a calming presence, we help mothers reflect on their own and their baby’s inner worlds, strengthening the emerging parent–child bond.
“The mother–child relationship underpins every other human relationship”
